Roam If You Want To, Roam Around The World

If you’ve just landed here from BigAppleAngie.com, welcome! If you found yourself here at Angie Away from another source, check out BAA for some background.

Welcome to Angie Away! I’m guessing the title and subject matter might just tip you off to my plans for the next 365 days, but just in case you’re not picking up what I’m putting down… here’s the big announcement.

On Dec. 31, I’m leaving the USA for a year to travel around the world.

I already know what frenetic questions you want to ask, because I’ve been answering them for a few months from in-the-know friends and relatives.

Yes, I’m going alone.
No, I’m not scared.
Yes, I’m quitting my amazing job.
No, I don’t think that’s the dumbest thing anyone has ever done.
Yes, I’ve been saving money.
No, it’s not going to cost $100,000.
Yes, I am going to miss everything about NYC.
No, I don’t know what I’m doing when/if I come back.

I adore my NYC life. I have a phenomenal job, wonderful friends and colleagues and a cute apartment that I’ve lived in for all 4+ years of my time here. Leaving all that to travel around the world may seem crazy, but I think it would be crazier NOT to.

I have the time, the desire and enough money to get by for a little while on the cheap, so the question for me wasn’t, “Is this a good decision?” The question was, “Why not?!” I’ve fantasized about taking a trip like this since I was a kid, and working in a cubicle for the past 6+ years, no matter how wonderful the job, just encouraged me to get out and see the world as soon as possible.

There were multiple factors that lead to me making this decision, and I’ll share those, plus the nitty-gritty details of my adventure in the weeks leading up to my departure.

But today, on my 29th birthday, I just wanted to share the news with all of you and invite you to come along. Poke around the new site and let me know what you think… I’ve got a lot to learn about Web design, so your feedback & comments are so appreciated.

Big gulps! Here we go!

  3. Angie, you’re going to have a great time. I’m so jealous of you, although I guess I shouldn’t be too jealous since I just got back from my very own round-the-world trip. I hope that your trip is every bit as fun as mine and hopefully more so.

  4. I am so excited for you! When you are rich and famous with your own show on the Travel Channel, I can say “I traveled France with Angie Orth.” Can’t wait to read all about it!
