Alligator Spotting on Little St. Simons Island

“The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Getting rained on once in a while is just a fact of life for the frequent traveler. It can’t always be sunny, right?

I know with full certainty that the Lodge at Little St. Simons Island would’ve been an even better adventure if it hadn’t poured for 92% of my two night stay. How do I know? Because I ventured out in between raindrops (6″ in one day!) a few times and saw almost enough wildlife and beautiful scenery to satisfy the Dora the Explorer in me… almost!

If you haven’t read up on this super lovely, adventurous property in South Georgia, check out Part 1 here

And now for Part 2! Here are some snaps from our brief island exploration… and don’t forget to scroll all the way down for a rainy day travel giveaway from Go Go Galoshes!

What’s that in the pond? Oh, a 10-foot gator! I was gonna wrestle him but he disappeared under the slime. Next time!

There are quite a few itty bitty gators in this shot. Can you spot them?

All I really wanted from my time at LSSI was a meeting with a gator, and it didn’t take too long to make that happen, even with the inclement weather. I spotted them everywhere once I started looking.

The rain really started to come down once we left the beach. It was not a very dry return to the Lodge!

So how about that rainy day giveaway I promised? A few weeks ago, Go Go Golosh reached out to tell me about their new line of $99 fold-up galoshes – perfect for the traveler caught in the rain. You can wear them over ballet flats or even high heels, and they come with a waterproof carrying case to store them once you’re safely in a dry place. Here’s a video that shows how they work!
