London is Calling | Getting Psyched for WTM

I just can’t get enough of London.

No matter how many times I visit, flying into Heathrow gives me a thrill like no other city. (Even though the Heathrow experience usually leaves much to be desired!)

The London Eye

Tomorrow I’m making my way back to Londontown for the umpteenth time in the past few years, this time for a little networking at World Travel Market, the world’s largest travel exhibition featuring 5,000 exhibitors from more than 184 countries.

I’m so looking forward to meeting with some of my dream destinations and crafting a plan to visit them in 2014. It’s going to be a ton of work, an extreme amount of elevator pitching and quite a bit of walking throughout the ExCel Centre (it’s roughly the size of 4 Super Walmarts), but I’m up for it.

Me and my ibuprofen.

The view from under a bridge along the Thames

I’d be lying if I said it was all business though… I have a few fun surprises up my sleeve. (Harry Potter fans, stay tuned – there will be a fun post coming your way soon.)

Ice skating at Hampton Court Palace

My fingers are crossed that the Queen and I finally meet. But I’d take a fun shopping date with Kate, too.

The real Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross

I can’t wait to wander among the landmarks again; the London Eye and Big Ben and the giant Gherkin and the Tower and the palaces. Oh, the palaces!

Buckingham Palace

And, I can’t even explain how excited I get the first time I’m politely reminded to Mind the Gap. I nerd out bigtime.

For some inexplicable reason, when I’m in London, just feel at home.

My favorite church: Westminster Abbey

It might have something to do with the fact that I have more friends in London than I do in my current hometown. Like… a lot more.

And I haven’t seen many of them in a year or more, so catching up is going to be such a wonderful breath of fresh air.

Tower Bridge at night: so epic!

Big Ben – a true London icon!

I think you’ll find that that’s Buckingham Palace you’re standing in front of, not Kensington Palace.

There are plenty of people in London, btw, who’d rather be living in Florida…

The choir from St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Jacksonville will be singing in Westminster Abbey in 2014 (Canterbury Cathedral, also). You should hop over and hear us when we’re there!

Great to hear that you will be back in our fair capital soon. I hope it is an enjoyable and successful trip for you. You certainly seem to be having fun in those photos.

My wife and I make an effort to get down at least once or twice a year to enjoy the sights and have a proper afternoon tea 🙂

This is how I WANT to feel about London but never have. Maybe I just need to go back during the winter months and have a Love, Actually moment…
