Summer Solstice Giveaway! BassBoomz Portable Speakers

In my ongoing quest to find and share the best beauty products and tech gear for travelers, I’m happy to report I’ve added some tiny, shiny new hardware to my pack: BassBoomz portable speakers from BassBuds. Perfect for a weekend trip to the beach, an impromptu dance party on a camping trip or an epic hike with friends where you need some appropriate jams (Eye of the Tiger, anyone?) for motivation, BassBoomz take up very little space while offering a surprisingly large sound.

I’ve been dancing around my new apartment with my electric pink BassBoomz for about 30 days now, so I figured I’d tell you all about these noisy little wonders and then give you a chance to win some for yourself. Yay!

TURN IT ON

If nothing else, BassBoomz are user friendly. Like a tiny accordion, all you have to do to get started is gently twist the speaker to unfold it. Once I plugged the device into my computer to charge, it only took a couple of hours and I was singing every last tune from GLEE Season 3 along with my BassBoomz.

It was easy to pair with the Bluetooth on my iPhone (or iPad, etc.), but even if you don’t have Bluetooth capability, you can also play music through the headphone jack (any MP3 player should be compatible).

Plug it in, set the volume (do this externally as there’s no volume control on the speaker), press play and you’re on your way to semi-loud music.

TURN IT UP

For best results, I’ve found placing the BassBoomz on a hard surface provides the best sound, and while I’m no sound quality expert, growing up in a family of rock and roll musicians has certainly affected my appreciation for music played at an appropriately raucous level. While BassBoomz aren’t going to provide a big enough sound to infuriate your parents and neighbors, they’re more than adequate for bebopping around your vacation home or sharing favorite iTunes tracks with new tour group friends on a felucca along the Nile.

BATTERY LIFE

Since I use my BassBoomz most frequently with Bluetooth & my iPhone and at maximum volume, I’ve noticed the battery doesn’t last more than a few hours. This drives me crazy because I work for 12-hour marathons at a time, so it can be frustrating to have to stop and recharge and go back to listening to Pandora on my wimpy little iPhone speakers until the BassBoomz are back in action. But that’s a first world problem, and one I can live with.

DURABILITY

I’ve only had my BassBoomz for a month now, so time will tell if they can withstand my travel schedule and constant unpacking, repacking and rocking out. For $130 retail, they ought to last quite a while – and you can be sure I’ll let you know if they don’t!
