As you can tell by all my Florida stories lately, there’s nothing I love more than exploring my home state! So when Jockey® called to invite Rachel and me to a girls’ getaway on Captiva Island, the answer was an enthusiastic yes. Tucked over on the West Coast, I’m a bit ashamed to admit we’d never been to this wild part of Florida.
We checked into the enormous South Seas Island Resort, a property spanning two miles, and began the adventure. The north end is where the party’s at, with two pools, a marina, tennis courts, restaurants and a poolside bar. The south end has a pool, too, and a Starbucks, a restaurant and watersports and bike rentals. In between is a windy road flanked with birds and other assorted Floridian critters, long stretches of shell-covered beaches and heaps of fun things to do.
Say Good Morning to the Beach
An early morning yoga class with AmbuYoga was the perfect way to kick off our active weekend on Captiva Island. Since we were on the beach, not only did we get to enjoy the waves and the salty sea air, but a pod of dolphins popped up to see what we were doing in our Jockey® swag.

Find a Bird’s Eye View
I always say the best way to introduce yourself to a new destination is to get up as high as you can. What better way to do that than attached to a brightly colored parachute? I hadn’t been parasailing since I was 5, so it was high time to try again.
Plus, Rachel was terrified to do it, so I enjoyed seeing her conquer a fear. I don’t remember being so high in the air the last time, but it was really not scary at all. And getting dunked in the Gulf of Mexico was a refreshing surprise!
Meet the Locals
Local wildlife, that is. We took a sunset cruise around Captiva Island and kept our eyes peeled for manatees and dolphins. Not long after we left the harbor, several playful dolphins leapt alongside us, keeping up until the sun dipped below the horizon.
Explore Captiva Island on A Bicycle Built for Two
You’ve read about my various bike riding mishaps throughout my travels, so it doesn’t make a ton of sense that my first question was, “Do you have a tandem bike?” I figured if Rachel and I were going to be twinning around Captiva Island in our matching Jockey® leggings and tanks, we might as well do it on a bicycle built for two. Talk about stopping traffic. Between the matching outfits and the novelty of “twins” on a tandem bike, there was nearly a pileup.
I’ll say this: it’s a lot harder than it looks.

Have an Active Slumber Party
South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island put us up in a huge three bedroom villa, but it probably won’t surprise you that Rachel and I chose the room with twin beds to share. No one is surprised that hijinks ensued. They always do when we travel together!

Unwind with some Spahhhh Time
I couldn’t tell if I was sore from all the yoga, parasailing and bike riding, or just from jumping on the bed during our sleepover photo shoot at South Seas Island Resort. Either way, there was only one way to remedy the sore muscles: a deep tissue massage at the Kay Casperson Spa. Pretty excited about capping off a busy weekend in such a perfect way!
