As I’m sure it did for many of you, the month of December felt like a mad dash to the 2014 finish line. A last-minute trip to the White House Travel Blogger Summit, while exhilarating and so much fun, threw off my holiday planning schedule, and all the preparations that come with ordering, tracking, shopping, returning and wrapping gifts for 10 people, plus baking so many treats, had me running around town like a strung out Martha Stewart.
When Carnival called mid-month to chat travel possibilities, my immediate question was a jubilant, “How soon do you need me?!” It has to be the quickest turnaround of any project I’ve ever worked on, and it came at the perfect time. What better way to decompress after a very busy holiday season than by dropping everything, bailing on cleanup and sailing to The Bahamas the day after Christmas?
I highly recommend this escape route for anyone who feels like December is a marathon that never ends…
The first step in my Carnival adventure was to take the Cruise-A-Nality quiz, a fun, fast way to discover your cruising persona and to find a ship that’s perfect for your interests. Out of the many options including Cruise Director, Mermaid and Lady Leisure, my Cruise-A-Nality will come as no surprise — I’m a Free Spirit!
Now, I wouldn’t say I’m a cruise aficionado, but I’ve cruised enough times to know what to expect on a variety of ships. The Cruise-A-Nality quiz directed me toward a few options that would’ve been worthy of my Free Spirit designation, but since my priority was to get out of town as quickly as possible after Christmas, none of my recommended ships were available on those dates.
So I did what anyone would do, and I went for convenience. Sometimes you just go with what works, right? (And what could be more Free Spirited than that?)
Ultimately I chose to sail on the Carnival Sensation for a few reasons:
- The Dec. 26 sailing was a perfect fit for my schedule.
- Carnival Sensation’s sails from Port Canaveral, less than 2 hours’ drive from Angie Away Base Camp.
- The itinerary is all Bahamas, all the time.
Two days in Bahamian ports and one fun day at sea — yes, I decided that would do just fine! I packed my bikinis, dropped my half unwrapped gifts off at Base Camp and embarked on an incredibly convenient, timely adventure. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for highlights from my time in Freeport & Nassau, as well as some interesting tales from onboard the Carnival Sensation. Hairy Chest Contest, anyone?
Before I crack open my SENSATIONAL adventure here on Angie Away, I’d love you to take the Cruise-A-Nality quiz and tell me what your persona is… I’ve met lots of other Free Spirits, but I’m keen to know which of my readers fall into the other categories. And if you think you’d like to give cruising a try, Carnival is hosting a giveaway right now where you can win a cruise every year for life! All you have to do is vote for your favorite new Carnival TV commercial and you’ll be entered to win. Cool prize, huh?
Thanks to Carnival for hosting me on the Sensation. All opinions, as always, are 100% my own.
