Mount Vesuvius, Italy | Travel Tuesday

Just about six miles from Naples is the Mount Vesuvius volcano. A stratovolcano, Vesuvius is the only active volcano on the European mainland that has erupted in the last 100 years. An eruption in AD 79 caused neighboring towns Pompeii and Herculaneum to be covered in ash. They were eventually forgotten and accidentally rediscovered in the 18th century.
