If you’re heading to Santorini, hopefully you have a nice wad of cash stashed in the bank and you can stay at the luxury properties I mentioned earlier this week. Don’t fret if you’re penny pinching though – you can still come!
If you’re wondering where to stay in Santorini on a budget, check out some of these wallet friendly properties I visited.
Amelie Hotel
In the rural town of Perissa, you’ll find the simple Amelie Hotel tucked into an almost desert-like, old West atmosphere. Lauren & I arrived super late one night (our ferry from Mykonos was delayed seven hours) and were warmly welcomed by Marios at the front desk.
The property is only a few miles from the beach, though with guests mingling all day at the pool bar, it might be hard to tear yourself away. Rates start at a very reasonable 50 euros/night and between Marios’ helpful island tips and free breakfast, that’s an outstanding deal.

Pelagos Traditional Studios
Just a few miles from Oia you’ll find the sparsely settled town of Baxedes among many vineyards and gardens. Pelagos Traditional Studios is tucked away here, off the main road on the flat plain behind Santorini’s famous sheer cliffs. On a clear day, you can see neighboring Ios across the sea.

Rural and calm, if you stay at Pelagos prepare to feel blissfully out of touch with the hustle and bustle of Fira & Oia, even though you’re not geographically far away at all. It also helps at this location to rent a car, though you can borrow bikes if you like to ride to the black sand beach or nearby taverna. (I borrowed a bike. I still hate bikes.)

If you’re looking for where to stay in Santorini that is remote but still accessible, Pelagos is a great fit. I stayed here several nights catching up on work and Skyping with friends by the pool. The downside is that the property is out of the way so if you don’t have a car, you’re stuck. I didn’t mind staying put though – you couldn’t find a quieter spot on the island for chilling out, and the moussaka is brilliant.

Ether Traditional Guesthouses
On the way from Oia to the Ammoudi Port, you might notice an unassuming cluster of Cycladic homes with a lovely pool area – that’s Ether Traditional Guesthouses. From your balcony, you can see the neighboring islands of Thirassia, Sikinos, Folegandros, Ios, Naxos, etc.
The property is no-frills…so don’t expect much in the way of amenities. There is free WiFi but you can only access it by the pool, so I spent many a late night sitting on a deck chair trying to get some work done. You likely won’t be working in Santorini though – so who cares?! The staff is lovely – I’m pretty sure it’s a family endeavor, so food is cooked, rooms are cleaned and the pool is serviced by the same few folks.
