How To Leave Your Dream Job To Travel

You can thank the Lost Girls trifecta for giving me all sorts of ideas for what to do with my year on the road. Several years ago, Amanda, Holly & Jen left their NYC careers to travel around the world. Sounds familiar, n’est-ce pas? They dubbed themselves The Lost Girls and have been writing about their adventures ever since at www.lostgirlsworld.com and in their first book, The Lost Girls: Three Friends, Four Continents, One Unconventional Detour Around the World.

I’ve learned a whole lot about RTW travel from The Lost Girls this year, from what to pack and where to go to how to stay safe on the road. You couldn’t ask for three sweeter travel mentors, in fact Amanda and Jen were kind enough to let me crash at their apartment when I was booted out of mine for the weekend. They’ve even let me write for their site! Head over to Lost Girls World to read my tips on quitting an amazing job to travel indefinitely.

Here’s an excerpt to whet your appetite:

Suffice it to say, I’m not leaving because of burnout – not by a long shot. My worst day at this job is better than the best day at my last, and I haven’t taken that lightly even as I’ve made plans to leave. At the very most basic level, I’m leaving because I have a bad case of wanderlust. I want to spend my 29th year living life as fully as possible. Instead of speeding toward my 30th birthday creating PR plans and getting gray hairs and wrinkles, I’m going to ride elephants and cage dive with great white sharks on the other side of the world.
